Shiatsu Massage

The English translation for the term Shiatsu is finger pressure. As an ancient Japanese healing practice, Shiatsu massage is a massage technique that uses stretching and pressure to manipulate muscle tissues. The person receiving a Shiatsu massage will lie on a mat on the floor while wearing loose fitting clothing. The massage therapist will use the fingers, thumbs, palms, knuckles, elbows, knees, and feet to massage the acupressure points of the body that lie along the 14 meridians or energy channels that run along the length of the body. Two of the meridians are responsible for pulling Chi through the torso. One meridian is known as the Governor which can be found down the length of the back, and the other is known as Conception which is found down the length of the front. The other 12 meridians are named the stomach, small and large intestine, spleen/pancreas, liver, gall bladder, kidneys, bladder, heart, lungs, sex, and triple heater.
