Arranging a Massage Session

Published on November 8, 2011 by

When you receive regular massage sessions by a licensed massage therapist, you can improve your overall health and well being. If you are planning on booking a massage session, below is a list of important information you should know about preparing for a massage:

Costs of a Massage:
The costs of receiving a massage can vary from region to region and city to city. More populous cities tend to have higher rates. As well, additional massage techniques such as using hot oils can increase the price of a massage. Generally speaking, expect to pay $40-$50 for half an hour and $60-$80 for a full hour for a standard therapeutic massage. Some insurance companies will cover a percentage of the cost of a massage session if the massage is about treatment for a medical condition such as back pain after being hit by a car.

Trained and Licensed Massage Therapists: Look for a licensed and trained massage therapist. There are many states that regulate massage therapy, however, if you live in a state that does not regulate massage therapy, you should still see a massage therapist that has certification.

Medical History Forms and Waivers: A licensed massage therapist will normally ask for your medical history to ensure there are no health risks when giving the massage. Make sure you provide the therapist with such information as: recent injuries, medication, any medical conditions, and any surgeries. As well, tell the massage therapist about any allergies. The information will protect you and the massage therapist from medical liability.

Massage is a therapeutic art and science. When you receive regular massages, you will see an improvement in your overall health and well being.
